My entry for the Steampunk challenge over at Cgtalk that didn't make the deadline. Was busy with something else at the time.

Perseus drops onto the sacrificial platform to save the chained Andromeda from the wrath of the Kraken. Instead of arriving on Pegasus, I made him wear this steam-powered heli-pack. That canister-like red thing that he's holding up is suppose to resemble Medusa's head. Hell I dunno, I just tried to make everything look steampunk.

CnC welcome.

perseus faces the kraken by *ahbeejieh is an epic work! The compostion, the movement, the painting skills of the artist and of course the ammount of details contribute to it. That is a work that can leave you speechless and staring. It's wonderful that while painting such a dynamic scene the artist haven't forgotten about the details. It may take you some time to notice all the little things ( Suggested by *Cocodrillo and Featured by `archanN )

That's really, really cool, but I'm sorry to say that Perseus didn't actually ride Pegasus. That was a different hero. He also didn't fight the Kraken at all, he rescued the princess from a completely different sea creature, the name of which I seem to have forgotten...

Hmm dunno if there's another version of Perseus' story. But the one I know of is based on the old movie. [link]

Yeah, most misconceptions about Perseus were brought about by that movie. It mostly captures the story, but adds some elements from other Greek heroes and stories. First of all, the Kraken is a creature from Norse mythology, not Greek. Also, the hero that rode Pegasus is actually Bellerophon, not Perseus. Perseus actually flew to rescue Andromeda using Hermes' winged sandals. Pegasus was only added to Perseus' story later on.

It's cool, Perseus has been so heavily associated with Pegasus nowadays, he is almost always depicted with him. The truth is, the only connection Pegasus has to Perseus is that Perseus killed the Gorgon Medusa, from which Pegasus "sprouted." The winged horse actually jumped out of the Gorgon's headless stump, along with a fully grown giant! It's a little strange, but that's the Greeks for you ^^;

I love steampunk. And to see this cracks me up, although this is a really fun reimagining. And, in some stories, Perseus didn't ride Pegasus, but used the winged sandals Hermes gave him before facing Medusa.
I really like this. The CGI style is really neat.
